History of Wu Dao Jing She
 |
|
Wu Dao
Jing She International Qigong
Society's founders are Chen Hui-xian and Charles Wu. After much planning and
contemplation, Wu Dao was established on September 13, 1996 to support a
growing number of qigong practitioners.
|
Charles Wu
and Chen Hui-xian
both graduated in 1954 from the Beijing
Foreign Languages Institute. For the next 30 years, they met only
occasionally. Professor Chen started learning Qigong in 1983 after being
diagnosed with cancer. Given only a 25% chance of survival, she regained
her health by practicing Soaring Crane Qigong with Master Zhao. She decided
her mission in life was to spread Soaring Crane Qigong around the world.
|
Professor Chen introduced Charles Wu to the
wonders of qigong. In 1987, he learned Soaring Crane Qigong while teaching
in Massachusetts. He moved to Portland the following year to teach at Reed
College and began a long project of studying qigong as a cultural
phenomenon. He invited Professor Chen to Portland in 1993 to teach a qigong
workshop at Reed College. One of the participants was an instructor at the
Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM). That instructor introduced her
to OCOM; and in 1993, she was invited to become their master qigong instructor.
|
Professors Chen and Wu guided Wu Dao Jing She
on the Board of Directors until 2001, when they retired from the Board and
passed the baton of leadership to others. They remain a part of the heart
and spirit of Wu Dao and have graciously stayed on to continue guiding
Wu Dao with devotion, compassion and vision. Professor Chen certifies
competent, adept teachers of qigong; and continues to provide certified
teachers with an ongoing Questions and Answers column, which is published
on this site and in the quarterly Wu Dao Newsletter. Professor Wu
travels and lectures on Chinese culture and the Dao. |
